The word Chai means tea, Chai was first invented around 5000 years ago as a beverage meant to heal and energise those who consumed it.
In the 1960's the price of black tea became more affordable and was used in combination with spices, milk and sugar to make what is popularly known today as Masala Chai.
Brewing Instructions: Place 1 teaspoon of loose leaf per 200ml cup into teapot or tea infuser, add boiling water, leave to infuse for 3-4 minutes, add honey to sweeten.
Stove top method: (makes 2 cup) Place 300ml of water into a saucepan add 3 teaspoons of chai and bring to boil, let simmer for 5 minutes, then add 150ml of milk and let simmer for further 5 minutes. Strain into teacup. Add honey to sweeten.
